Advanced Pastoral Liturgy

‌‌Those who have prior liturgical experience may elect to further their studies in the advanced program. Prospective students must be have successfully completed the basic certificate offered by LMU Extension, or have completed a baccalaureate or postbaccalaureate degree in liturgical studies.

Program Benefits

The advanced program is designed to give students the skills and opportunities to apply and refine the principles and content learned in the basic program with the goal of improving and enhancing worship at a practical level: forming and improving the worship experience of each student’s parish or school community. Students will be required to actively participate in shaping of their community’s liturgical experience. Class time will be spent reflecting on these experiences, refining goals and examining theological studies pertinent to achieving those goals. 

Credit from this program may be applicable to catechist certification at the discretion of the certifying diocese. Please be sure to check with the appropriate diocesan office to confirm that this program qualifies for credit towards certification or recertification.

    Advanced Pastoral Liturgy
    5.0 Semester Hours

    Building upon the themes from Basic Pastoral Liturgy, this course further explores the theology and praxis of Catholic ritual theory, scripture, music and art, history, liturgical practice, and ecclesiology. Students will apply and refine the principles and content learned in the basic courses with the goal of improving and enhancing worship. This includes reflection and discussion on professional liturgical experiences, refining worship goals and examining theological themes pertinent to achieving those goals. Students will be required to actively participate in shaping of their community’s liturgical life. Prerequisite: Pastoral Liturgy
