Pastoral Liturgy

Theological Foundations for Liturgical Ministry

This course explores the fundamentals of liturgy to equip Church ministers with the theological tools for exercising pastoral ministry. Students will learn the fundamentals of liturgy through by examining the following five core elements of liturgy: history and tradition; liturgical structures and symbols; liturgical ecclesiology and priesthood; fundamental theological questions; and the essentials of presidency and celebration. Upon successful completion of this course, students will receive a certificate of completion in Liturgical Studies.

  • How the liturgy and sacraments form the Church
  • How liturgy works at the structural and soteriological levels

Credit from this program may be applicable to catechist certification at the discretion of the certifying diocese. Please be sure to check with the appropriate diocesan office to confirm that this program qualifies for credit towards certification or recertification.

    This is a hybrid course. All course meetings and work will be conducted online with two in-class meetings (students unable to travel will be able to participate in in-class meetings online). This course is scheduled to begin again in the Spring 2018 Extension Term. Dates will be announced soon.
