Ben Hayes is director emeritus, bringing a long history of education and business to his position overseeing professional development programs for educators in LMU Extension. He retired in February 2016 after 22 years with LMU Extension.*
As director of Special Programs, Mr. Hayes managed professional development programs and related coursework designed for working educators. Sujbects included math, the arts, early literacy, sciences, sociology, psychology and other fields related to their teaching.
Education is also a vital interest for Hayes when he's not at work, and where he focuses his volunteer time. He is a former member of chair of the Board of Directors of St. Mary's Academy in Inglewood, an all-girls high school that is a ministry of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Carondelet. Hayes is also past board chair for the St. Vincent de Paul Men's Center located on Winston Street in downtown L.A., and is a member of Post 43 of the American Legion that supports baseball programs for youngsters and state and local government programs for junior and senior high school students.
Mr. Hayes' wife, Terry, is an alum of St. Mary's Academy and Loyola Marymount University. The couple have three children and three grandchildren.
