Krishnamacharya in The Huffington PostExtension instructor Larry Payne, who currently directs the Yoga Therapy and Prime of Life Yoga programs in the Center for Religion and Spirituality, recently contributed an article to The Huffington Post on his adventures in India and meeting the late Sri T. Krishnamacharya, who many consider the father of modern Yoga in the United States.Larry Payne coauthored Yoga Therapy Rx, Yoga for Dummies and The Business of Teaching Yoga. Larry is founding president of the International Association of Yoga Therapists, founder of the Corporate Yoga program at the J. Paul Getty Museum, the first Yoga teacher to offer Yoga classes at the World Economic Forum, cofounder of the yoga curriculum at the UCLA School of Medicine, and the founding director of the Yoga Therapy programs at LMU Extension. Titled "The Father of Modern Yoga," Larry writes: "Many people discover yoga because they are looking to alleviate pain or discomfort. My introduction to yoga was not atypical -- a search for relief from terrible back pain. Let's face it: The human body was not designed to sit in a chair or car seat for 10 hours per day.
