First Year Seminar

Welcome to the First Year Seminar, Class of 2021!

This signature course of the Core Curriculum is designed to introduce first year students to the spirit of academic excellence and intellectual rigor that guides the community of scholars at Loyola Marymount University. It is taken in either the fall or the spring of the first year at LMU.

As a student in the First Year Seminar, you will have the opportunity to closely engage with some of the finest faculty and field experts the university has to offer. Courses range from engaged explorations of cross-cultural communication and mitigation through music to examinations of the role of baseball in American Society. Read through the course titles, descriptions and faculty biographical statements carefully to gain a sense of the kind of interactive, interdisciplinary work you will do next year and to see which seminars you may be interested in enrolling. Please select at least five preferred seminars for both Fall and Spring in preparation for June orientation, when you will meet with your advisor to enroll in a seminar based on your subject interest, course availability and registration slot.

We welcome you to the university, Class of 2021, and wish you an exciting and enriching induction into the academic life of LMU.
