Hear from our former Bunche Scholars:
“You will get homesick!! But there will be people to support you. Looking back, I wish I had utilized those resources more. I think that if I had managed my homesickness better, I would have been able to enjoy more of South Africa. South Africa is an amazing country, with little pieces of Dutch and British European culture, traditional African Zulu and Xhosa cultures, and East Indian culture all in one setting. The beauty of the land is breathtaking. The diverse cultures (and FOOD) make it even better! I would go back in a heartbeat if I could afford the plane ticket. It’s everything one would want in a study abroad experience, and more.”
~Nicole Powell, South Africa Service Learning Program, spring 2015
“I recommend this program if it's possible! There's so much to learn about their culture and their roots. The courses definitely helped understanding. You don't just learn about their past history but the history they're making. If you're a Lord Of The Rings fan like myself, DEFINITELY apply for this program!”
Brenda Hernandez, New Zealand, summer 2014
“I had the opportunity to study and travel at the same time. The New Europe Program included two trips to Madrid/Barcelona in Spain and Berlin/Dresden in Germany. On the weekends, I traveled to nearby countries: France, Netherlands, Belgium, Czech Republic, Switzerland, and the UK.
Also, I received a host family through this program and grew attached to them. My host mom and I are still in touch and I still call her Mom.”
