Daniel Speak
Daniel Speak, Principal Investigator and Co-Director, has been teaching at LMU since 2007, offering classes in ethics, metaphysics, logic, and the philosophy of religion. He has served as Department Chair and Graduate Director in the Department of Philosophy as well as more broadly on the LMU Faculty Senate and in the University Honors Program. His research has focused on issues regarding free will, moral responsibility, and the problem of evil, with future work turning in the direction of the role of hope in philosophy. He will concede that Jason Baehr knows a great deal more about the nature and norms of the intellectual virtues than he does; but he thinks it is an open question who is more intellectually humble between them. When he isn’t teacher-scholaring, he enjoys sports, books, friends, and family (especially his grandkids, who nevertheless think he is “stinky”).
