David Velasquez joined the Institutional Research and Decision Support team as an Institutional Research Associate in July 2022. Before arriving at LMU, David was a research associate at the University of Southern California, where he is also currently completing his Ph.D. in Urban Education Policy. David’s dissertation focuses on the relationship between high school English proficiency and LatinX English Learner college math success.
Prior to USC, David taught math at high schools throughout South Los Angeles and served as a researcher within the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics in Washington, D.C.. In doing so, he examined community college to public four-year university transfer trends among low-income students and students of color. He received his Master's degree in Education with a focus on Urban Teaching and a bilingual authorization (BCLAD) in Spanish from the University of California, Los Angeles and earned a B.A. in Social Welfare from the University of California, Berkeley.
