Associate Director of Survey Research 

Michelle Castellanos, Ph.D., joined IRDS  in 2015 and serves as Associate Director of Survey Research and Adjunct Faculty within the School of Education. Prior to coming to Loyola Marymount University, Michelle served as a research associate and faculty member at the University of Southern California and Mount Saint Mary’s University. She received her B.A. in Psychology and Social Welfare from the University of California, Berkeley, and her Ph.D. in Higher Education and Educational Psychology from the University of Southern California.

Michelle has substantial experience developing surveys and using survey data to examine students’ college experiences and subsequent learning, persistence, and career outcomes. Her scholarly work has been featured in the Journal of College Student Development, Journal of Hispanic Higher Education, and the Journal of Higher Education. As Associate Director of Survey Research, Michelle provides leadership and support in the areas of surveys and evaluations, research methods, and leads survey and institutional research studies in support of strategic planning and decision making.

Survey Research Associate

Alan Nong, Ph.D. Candidate, joined the Surveys and Evaluation team in 2018. As Survey Research Associate, Alan supports the unit’s aims of advancing the University’s survey research and evaluation initiatives in support of strategic planning and decision-making, including but not limited to providing Qualtrics and survey research support to members of the campus community, and support in the administration of course evaluations.

Previously, Alan supported a variety of research initiatives and program evaluations within the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Kansas. Alan received his B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, Riverside, and M.A. in Education and Human Development from George Washington University. In addition to his work on the Surveys & Evaluation team, Alan is currently completing his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and Research from the University of Kansas.

Survey Research Assistants

As Survey Research Assistants, Rachel and Katie Linh play an integral role in supporting the units functions and aims, including but not limited to maintaining the unit’s Qualtrics Resource Library and providing faculty and staff with technical assistance with Qualtrics, LMU’s online survey research solution. Rachel Barnes joined the Surveys and Evaluation team in the Fall of 2018. Prior to coming to LMU, Rachel received her B.A. in Psychology and Sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. While at UCSB Rachel worked with the Psychology Department where she assisted in the development of Qualtrics surveys regarding the relationship between perceived wealth and academic performance. Rachel is currently completing her Master's in Counseling with an emphasis in School Counseling and Mental Health and is working towards her PPS and LPCC license. 

Katie Linh Pham joined the Surveys and Evaluation team in the Fall of 2019. Katie Linh previously attained her B.A. in Anthropology and Education at the University of California, Riverside. At UCR, she engaged in research that studied ethnic-minority students' perceptions of the campus climate, and their experiences with ethnic outgroups within the campus. Katie Linh is currently completing her Master’s in Guidance and Counseling at LMU. Currently, Katie Linh is interested in investigating the characteristics of the graduate students at LMU to better understand the needs of this unique population.
