Degree Works Degree Audit

Degree Works

Degree Works is our degree audit and student educational planning software. A degree audit is a comprehensive review of a student's academic progress toward meeting the requirements for a particular degree program. The audit compares the courses that the student has taken with the requirements for the degree and identifies any remaining requirements that the student needs to complete. A degree audit is an important tool for students to ensure that they are on track to meet the requirements for their degree and to make informed decisions about their academic career.

Do I still need to see my advisor?

Absolutely — Degree Works does not take the place of your advisor. You should always review your degree progress report before meeting with your advisor, preparing any questions you may have about your requirements. Your advisor will use the Degree Works Audit in the process of advising you about your program. Your advisor will help guide you in meeting the degree requirements, but you, as the student, are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of your audit. A degree cannot be earned until Degree Works shows all requirements as met.

When should I look at my degree audit?

You should always review your audit:

  • Before you meet with your academic advisor to discuss registration for an upcoming semester.
  • After you register to ensure that the courses you selected applied to your requirements as you thought they would.
  • After your grades for each semester are posted.
  • Any time you make a change to your schedule or degree program.
  • In the semester prior to graduating to ensure that you are able to finish your program in your last semester.

What do I do if I believe that Degree Works is not applying a course(s) correctly to my degree program?

Contact your advisor with questions about your audit. Advisors can answer questions about course substitutions that may be needed. In working with you, your advisor will submit the necessary adjustment forms.

My minor or concentration is missing from my audit - how do I fix this?

If you have not officially declared your minor or concentration, complete a Change of Program and consult your Department Chair and/or Associate Dean's Office.

Who should I contact if I still have questions or disagree with the audit?

Please contact your advisor.

NOTE: Students are held to the degree requirements published in the University Bulletin of their entry term. Any variance from the published requirements must have signed documentation, approved by the University, and processed by the Office of the Registrar.

    • All degree and certificate-seeking students have degree audits, including graduate students.
    • Users have the ability to view the originating institution and course prefix/number for accepted transfer work directly in the degree audit.
    • The CourseLink feature allows users to see the prerequisite, description, sections and course times offered, and seat counts for needed courses, which updates in real time.
    • The audit has a modern and mobile-friendly design.
    • Log into MyLMU

      • The Degree Works degree audit worksheet for your declared degree and major will automatically display.

Alternatively, you may also access Degree Works through PROWL.

Once logged in, you will see the student information bar at the top of the page. This displays the following details about your status as an LMU student:

    • Student ID number
    • Student name
    • Degree
    • Level (undergraduate or graduate)
    • Class Year
    • College
    • Major(s)
    • Concentration(s)
    • Minor(s)

The audit should default to the first priority program as declared in Banner. If you do not see the degree you expected, click on the drop-down arrow in the degree field.

If you are pursuing two different degrees, the second one can be viewed here as well.

If your major declaration is incorrect, but you have submitted the appropriate paperwork, please contact the Regisrar's office.

  • Q: When will a student first appear in the degree audit system?

A: Students will generally appear in Degree Works the morning following their admission to the University. For example, if a student is admitted on Monday morning, an extract on Monday evening will pull them into Degree Works, and their audit will be available for Tuesday morning.

Q: I registered for classes this morning, changed my major/minor, or got a grade change today. This is not showing up on my degree audit. What should I do?

A: Click the refresh link re-import your student information into Degree Works. This will also cause a new audit to be generated.

Q: I'm seeing that my requirements show as met, but my Degree Progress percentage is 98%. What does that mean?

A: Audits will show a 98% if all requirements are met, but some are being met by in-progress work.  An audit will only show as 100% met if all work has been graded. Assuming the student successfully completes their in-progress work, the audit will adjust to 100% met at the end of the term.

    Q: I need to request a course substitution/waiver/approval. What should I do?

A: Contact your academic advisor. They will be familiar with the process used by your academic department to process course exceptions.

Q: How is my major or minor GPA calculated?

A: These GPAs are made up of the courses that you find in the respective major/minor block.

Q: I am getting a message that my major or minor requirements are not written in Degree Works. What should I do?

A: In most cases, the Office of the Registrar has written the requirements back through fall 2014. If you find that your requirements cannot be found in your degree audit, please contact the Office of the Registrar so your program requirements can be written or an alternate method of verifying your graduation requirements can be used.
