Graduation Date: May 2025

Fellowship Award: Global Experience in Research for Undergraduates in Food Security in Kenya, Africa. Undergraduate students conduct research on crops with the goal of food security, while immersing themselves in a different culture through this fully funded program.

What are your current or future career plans? PhD in Biology. Someday do research and scientific illustrations.

What did you enjoy most about the program? Both the people I interacted with and the exploration of Kenya's rich culture and natural beauty were unforgettable. Connecting with an exceptional group of undergraduate students who shared my aspirations and passions was an incredible experience. I am especially grateful for the close friendships I formed with the two fellow undergraduates in my research group, which got me through the long lab days. Additionally, witnessing The Great Migration in Maasai Mara is one of the highlights of my life thus far.

What was the most challenging aspect of the program? Balancing the demands of completing a research project while also exploring Kenya within 8 weeks was a significant challenge. In order to get the project done, and explore on weekends, we had some research days that started at 7 a.m. and finished at 10 p.m. It was exhausting but 100% worth it!

What advice do you have for future applicants? Never be afraid to apply for something and don't procrastinate applying. Put time into your applications, convey your unique personality, and hope for the best-- I believe in you!

What would people be surprised to know about your experience? I love black licorice and took Good & Plenty candy with me to Kenya, in case I couldn't find any there!
