LMU China Studies Group
About:
The mission of the CSG is to provide an open space for robust scholarly exchange about China and China-related global-local issues, to serve the professional growth of faculty, staff, and administrators who are dedicated to working on or with China, and to cultivate a lively community of scholars and students interested in learning about China through generating productive intellectual conversations and building intercultural connections beyond the Bluff.
Since its founding in October 2020, the CSG has organized a series of well-attended academic talks (China Studies Forum), discussion panels (China in Focus), and workshops (Peer Mentoring) and retreats (Writing Retreat) featuring both outside guests and LMU's own faculty, staff, or students. With support from the Office of International Programs and Partnerships, the CSG seeks to carry out its mission in dynamic and innovative ways.

The China Studies Group, in partnership with The Beijing Center, is pleased to hold an interdisciplinary symposium on global China Studies in Beijing, June 6-7, 2025. This symposium, as potentially the first of a multi-year series, aims to promote East-West dialogue and collaboration in a time of challenging geopolitical relations. LMU-affiliated scholars are invited to propose individual presentations of recent research on persistent or emerging "conversations" between China and the West.
Here is the China Studies Symposium call and the priority deadline is February 28, 2025. The Symposium Review Committee will begin reviewing proposals on March 1st and will notify those who meet the priority deadline of their acceptance by March 7th. If spaces remain available, the Committee will continue to accept proposal submissions until March 12th and will begin reviewing the second batch of proposals on March 13th and send notifications of acceptance by March 15th. All notices of rejection will be sent out between March 15th and March 20th, 2025.
Proposals should be sent to the email address csg.symposium@lmu.edu. Please see “How to Apply” on Page 4 of the attached CFP for detailed instructions. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Lei (lei.qin@lmu.edu) or Yu (yu.li@lmu.edu).
