Sr. Mary Genino, RSHM, Fellowship
In honor of Sr. Mary Genino’s commitment to the Los Angeles community, the Marymount Institute has established a fellowship program for LMU students, undergraduate and/or graduate, to gain valuable community experience as part of their studies. Fellows will initially be placed in the South Central Los Angeles Ministry Project (SC LAMP), which was founded by Catholic sisters from eight congregations in the aftermath of the 1992 civil unrest in Los Angeles to support women and families; the program will expand to other social justice oriented community organizations as funding allows. Student fellows will gain valuable (paid) professional experience through these placements, helping them translate and put to work in the community the knowledge and skills they are gaining in the classroom. The program honors Sr. Mary’s most important life’s work and furthers the mission and legacy of the RSHM Sisters “to place ourselves and our resources at the service of those who are most in need of justice, especially women and children, enabling the powerless, the deprived, the marginalized, the voiceless to work effectively for their own development and liberation.” The program also strengthens the connections between LMU and the Los Angeles community.
Students interested in applying for the fellowship program should contact the Marymount Institute Director.
