Spring 2026 OIE Assessment Workshops

This workshop series is designed to support in working backward from “closing the loop”
toward the practical tools that support that work. Sessions focus on assignment design for
future PLO assessment, interpreting and using survey results for APR, and developing a
coherent program narrative using available data. Together, the workshops offer a practical
assessment toolkit that is meaningful and manageable.

You should attend if you are a faculty member in an academic degree program engaged in
curriculum, assessment, or Academic Program Review, or a staff member who supports
academic programs and students and wants to better understand academic assessment and
review processes.

Designing Assignments for PLO Assessment

This workshop supports faculty in designing or refining assignments that can serve both
instructional and assessment purposes. Participants will examine how assignments align with
Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs), discuss characteristics of effective assessment artifacts, and
consider strategies for gathering evidence of student learning using work already embedded in
courses. The focus is on practical alignment rather than creating new or additional assignments.

Friday, February 13, 2026 from 10am-11am on Zoom

Telling the Program Story with Data

This workshop helps faculty make sense of program-level data and use it to tell a coherent story
about their program with application to academic program review. Participants will learn how to
interpret IRDS data to identify key trends and situate data within disciplinary and program
context. The session emphasizes interpretation, reflection, and decision-making. Lunch
included!

Thursday, February 26, 2026 from 11:30am-1:00pm at VDA

Surveys for APR and PLO Assessment

This workshop explores how surveys can be used thoughtfully to support academic program
review and learning outcomes assessment. Participants will review common survey items,
discuss what survey data can and cannot tell us, and consider ways to integrate survey findings
with other forms of evidence. The focus is on using surveys to inform reflection and
improvement, rather than collecting data for its own sake. Lunch included!

Monday, March 23, 2026 from 11:30 am–1:00 pm at VDA

Closing the Loop in Program Assessment

This interactive workshop explores what closing the loop can realistically look like as part of
ongoing assessment and continuous improvement. Participants will examine how faculty can
use evidence to inform decisions and identify meaningful next steps. The session focuses on
building shared understanding and momentum for purposeful, faculty-engaged assessment over
time. Lunch included!

Monday, April 27, 2026 from 11:30am-1:00pm at VDA
