Last month, I had the opportunity to participate in Disability Advocacy Day in Sacramento. Hundreds of advocates, community members, and people with disabilities came together to champion policies and budget priorities that advance disability rights, equity, and inclusion.
Throughout the day, we rallied, organized, and met with legislators to advocate for the protection of In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS), Medi-Cal, health care access for immigrants, and special education services. My advocacy is rooted in my commitment to my family, my clients, and my community. As an Immigration Social Worker, I see firsthand how policy decisions impact the lives of the individuals and families I serve, and I believe it is critical to bring those experiences and perspectives directly to policymakers.
I also had the opportunity to observe a California State Senate session and witness the legislative process in action as Senators debated and voted on key issues. Experiences like this serve as a powerful reminder that meaningful change happens when people come together, share their stories, build relationships, and use their voices to advocate for more accessible, inclusive, and equitable communities. Collective action is essential to creating systems that support belonging, independence, and full participation for all.
