Mairead Sullivan is Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies. Sullivan has led campus-wide curricular transformation, faculty development programs, and community-engaged initiatives that center justice, accessibility, and critical inquiry. Sullivan is a teacher-scholar committed to justice-driven, interdisciplinary collaboration—bringing faculty and students together across fields to explore how questions of power, identity, and collective life shape our shared worlds.

Sullivan’s research explores the cultural and political meanings of health, illness, and identity. Sullivan's award-winning book Lesbian Death: Desire and Danger between Feminist and Queer has been recognized by the Lambda Literary Foundation and the Organization for the Study of Communication, Language, and Gender. Sullivan’s current project, Herpes: A Cultural Biography, examines the shifting meaning of the Herpes Simplex Virus using feminist, public health, and digital methods. This work is supported by the NEH-funded Advancing Digital Health Humanities Institute and the NSF-funded Knowledge of AIDS Research Network.
