First Year Seminar

Welcome to the First Year Seminar, Class of 2027!

This signature course of the Core Curriculum is designed to introduce first year students to the spirit of academic excellence and intellectual rigor that guides the community of scholars at Loyola Marymount University. It is taken in either the fall or the spring of the first year at LMU.

As a student in the First Year Seminar, you will have the opportunity to closely engage with some of the finest faculty and field experts the university has to offer. Courses range from engaged explorations of cross-cultural communication and mitigation through music to examinations of representations of zombies in popular culture. This year we have organized FYS sections into thematic categories to help you find a course that fits your interests. Read through the categories, course titles, descriptions, and faculty biographical statements carefully to gain a sense of the kind of interactive, interdisciplinary work you will do next year and to see which seminars you may be interested in enrolling.

We welcome you to the university, Class of 2027, and wish you an exciting and enriching induction into the academic life of LMU.
