Engaged Learning

Courses with an Engaged Learning Flag integrate classroom studies with experience beyond the classroom, challenging students to use their experiences to think more critically and deeply about what they are studying.

Engaged Learning Outcomes

In engaged learning experiences, students will...

  • Apply informal and formal ways of knowing by demonstrating awareness of one’s own and at least one other worldview from the community/context that the learning experience engages.
  • Collaborate with members of the community/context in respectful and reciprocal ways.
  • Evaluate the problem presented using skills and frameworks developed in course content.
  • Respond ethically to pressing issues in contemporary society that affect human and/or ecological well-being.
  • Reflect on the importance of engaged citizenship in personal, professional, and civic activities in service of caring for the collective welfare of communities.
