Joy in Crafting Writing Assignments, Part 1

Writing assignments help shape what students ultimately say in their finished papers, making assignment quality a central concern in writing pedagogy. As part of our 2017-18 assessment of student writing across LMU, the Office of Assessment found a substantial relationship between a measure of assignment quality and students’ scores on LMU’s Written Communication rubric. Join us to talk about these findings, give us feedback on our measure of assignment quality, and discuss how to design assignments that are rewarding for faculty and students!

  • Roots of Lifelong Learning at LMU

The education of the whole person continues through life after college, as reflected in LMU’s lifelong learning outcome for undergraduates: Students will value intellectual growth, demonstrate curiosity about the world, and be able to increase their knowledge and skills outside the experience of a classroom. To explore this outcome, the Office of Assessment surveyed students in Spring 2020 about their intellectual curiosity, self-directed learning, and educational experiences related to lifelong learning. Join us to hear the results and discuss how LMU can prepare students to grow in their intellects, knowledge, and skills after graduation!
