The Campus Read
The Campus Read invites members of the LMU community to read together and to engage in conversation about the themes of the chosen book – an opportunity to join in a vibrant intellectual community across campus. The 2026-2027 Campus Read is The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World, the newest book from Robin Wall Kimmerer, acclaimed scholar, award-winning author, and enrolled member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. The book offers a bold and inspiring vision for orienting our lives around gratitude, reciprocity, and community, based on the lessons of the natural world.
All entering first-year students will receive copies of The Serviceberry during orientation, and the book will be integrated into the Rhetorical Arts courses in the University Core Curriculum Committee. Faculty are also encouraged to integrate The Serviceberry and Kimmerer’s other work into their classes as appropriate.
Professor Kimmerer will visit campus in the spring as part of our Global Conversations series, an exciting opportunity for students to engage directly with the author of the Campus Read. Additional programming over the course of the year will engage faculty, students, staff, and the broader community around questions central to The Serviceberry, including the relationships between humans and nature, ideas of reciprocity and interconnectedness, Indigenous wisdom, and more. Please see Entangled Natures for more information.
