Role of Faculty

During the Design process, faculty roles include:

  • Creates course learning objectives and goals

  • Determines optimal instructional pedagogies for teaching the subject

  • Provides subject matter expertise

  • Determines standards for mastery and creates authentic assessments

  • Understanding of program scope and how their course relates to others in the program

  • Understanding of course scope and what topics should/should not be included

 

During the Content Development process, faculty roles include:

  • Creates supplemental instructional content such as documents, videos, presentations, etc.

  • Meets all project deadlines and delivers agreed-upon materials to Instructional Design team to facilitate course building

  • Provides bibliographic citations for course materials as appropriate

 

In terms of Communication, faculty roles include:

  • Consults with Instructional Designers, Instructional Technologists, Librarians, Program Director(s) and other faculty in the program as necessary to facilitate course development

  • Provides timely feedback to Instructional Designers and faculty peers as appropriate

  • Revisits course with Instructional Design team after course delivery has been completed for discussion of edits/updates/review

 

Role of Instructional Designers 

During the Design process, Instructional designer roles include:

  • Provides expertise in eLearning software, adult learning theory, and online engagement strategy

  • Provides course design and pedagogy assistance for hybrid/online instruction

  • Adept at connecting students to course content using learning technologies

  • Versed in creative instructional strategies for hybrid/online delivery

  • Guides establishment of program level technology standards for students

 

During the Content Development process, Instructional designers roles include:

  • Supports development of online content, assignment, and assessments development

  • Works from the student/user perspective to ensure clarity of instructions and accessibility of all course materials

  • Able to visualize the final course and program and build in consistency and cohesion

 

In terms of Communication, Instructional designer roles include:

  • Provides regular updates and opportunities for faculty partners to review course development progress

  • Coordinates efforts with other campus stakeholders (ITS, WHH Library, Student Affairs, etc.) to facilitate a holistic online student experience with comprehensive student support

  • Provides technology training for faculty partners and support staff as needed
