The Common Data Set (CDS) stems from the collaboration of universities with companies that publish college guides and rankings. The CDS was developed to reduce duplication of institutional researchers' effort and to meet publishers' needs. Survey items cover information on students and student life, on academic offerings and faculty, on annual expenses and financial aid, and on degrees conferred by the university. Because hundreds of universities participate in the survey, the publishers of college guides can provide information that allows you to compare colleges of interest.
