Virtual Teaching & Learning Resources to Bring the World to LMU  

The following is a compilation of virtual Global Teaching and Learning Resources that range from UN SDG videos to a virtual exchange toolkit to connecting with our international partners through the Office of Study Abroad to arrange a speaker for your course. This list is a “work-in-progress” and we invite you to share information and/or suggestions so this website can be a space to intentionally connect interdisciplinary academic resources for open up global learning experiences for students and staff that are not able to travel abroad.

Global Engagement Vision Award

Global Engagement Vision Award                                                                    

To support the objectives to increase equitable access to global, transnational, and international learning and engagement for students, LMU’s Office of Global-Local Affairs (GLA) announces the inaugural “Global Engagement Vision Award.” The goal of this new award is to get academic departments more engaged with GLA to enhance our institutional commitment to comprehensive internationalization and global learning for all that advances the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

As part of the implementation of the Internationalization Strategic Plan produced from LMU’s participation in the American Council on Education’s Internationalization Laboratory (ACE Lab), the Global Vision Award will provide funding to faculty of $1,000 to:

  1. ) Develop a global vision statement (a paragraph or two) for their departments/programs (in consultation with their departments/programs) to be posted on the department/program’s website, and
  2. ) Curate a list of current course offerings that reflect global, international or transnational themes/topics with at least 25% content, as well as future courses that will further fulfill the vision.

GLA invites departments and programs across campus to apply for the Global Engagement Vision Award. Individual faculty and team submissions are encouraged. Work is to be completed by September 30, 2023.   

To apply, please complete this application by April 3rd, 2023 at 5:00pm.

  • Internationalization in Action from the American Council on Education to connecting classrooms using online technology to deliver global learning from the Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) program. Discusses the rationale, practical considerations, benefits, and challenges of initiating a new COIL program, and several other approaches to virtual exchange in higher education. 
  • Faculty Guide for COIL Course Development from the Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) program. This guide is designed to help you gather the tools and information needed to begin course development.

  • Virtual Exchange Toolkit from the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. This toolkit shares an introduction to virtual exchange, provides tools and a framework for how to begin a program at a school or institution, and offers tips for common challenges.

  • Virtual Exchange Typology and Glossary of Terms from the Stevens Institute. Establishes common terms and a shared understanding of key concepts will help virtual exchange practitioners and scholars understand what types of exchanges exist, how they are created, and what is required for implementation.
  • An Educator’s Guide to Intercultural Learning: Ten Ways to Inspire Learning across Difference from True North Intercultural. This guide is meant to help you get started and know where to focus your efforts to more proactively foster intercultural learning.
