2023 AJCU Honors Conference

Sacred Heart Chapel at LMU

The AJCU Honors Conference will take place at Loyola Marymount University from March 9-11, 2023.

The annual AJCU Honors Conference is designed to promote discussion and share best practices surrounding honors education at Jesuit institutions.  Building on the conversations we had at SLU last year, this year’s conference will continue to spotlight racial justice in Honors education by broadening our scope—asking fundamental questions about “what” “why” and “for whom” with respect to Honors programs. The conference itinerary is still under development, but a general outline follows. On this page you will also find information about conference registration, transportation, and accommodations.

This conference is meant for honors program directors and students, as well as Honors administrators and faculty at Jesuit colleges and universities. Each institution is invited to bring several students to the conference's annual gathering to enrich the conversation. Although some threads of each conference are tailored specifically to administrators or students, most sessions are open to all conference participants.

We are eager to join, once again, in community with our Jesuit colleagues across the country.

Conference Schedule

Below is the conference schedule. The "Who, what and why?" sessions will be concurrent breakouts on these questions as they relate to Jesuit Honors Programs. There will be three back-to-back sessions so that participants have the opportunity to reflect on all three questions--or you may choose to double- (or triple-) up.

Conference Registration

Register for the 2022 AJCU Honors Conference by visiting the Conference Registration Page. The conference cost will be $210/guest, which will cover lunch for all guests on Friday and Saturday, the Directors’ Dinner on Friday, daily transportation to and from the hotel to campus, transportation to and from the Directors’ Dinner and the Student Activity, and other costs (e.g., coffee, snacks, etc.). Inflation continues to increase the cost of all these items, and in LA particularly. This may be an overestimate of our needs; any remaining funds will be refunded to all conference attendees proportional to the amount paid.

In order to plan for the appropriate number of guests, the registration deadline closed February 1, 2023. However, if you would like to attend, we still have room for you! Please register in the above link and also send an email to Nubia.Valenzuela@lmu.edu (cc Trevor.Zink@lmu.edu) and let us know you're coming!

Covid-19 information

LMU adheres to all local and state health guidelines. LMU does not currently require masking on campus or proof of vaccination for on-campus visitors. Masking is, of course, optional and recommended indoors. Up-to-date Covid policies can be found at lmu.edu/together.

If you register now and the conference is unable to proceed due to ongoing public health concerns, we will issue full refunds.

Local Accommodations

Hotel

All conference sessions will take place on LMU's campus. Local hotel accommodations are available at the Four Points by Sheraton Los Angeles Westside, located a few minutes from LMU. Complimentary breakfast is available at the hotel on Friday and Saturday mornings.

We have secured a group rate of $169-189 under the block name “AJCU Conference.” Use this link to book your room in the block. All reservations must be made by February 26, 2023.  After that date, any unclaimed rooms from our block will be released to the general public and the preferred rate will no longer be available.

Parking is available at the Four Points Sheraton for $15/day, but the LMU Honors Program will provide parking vouchers on campus for those driving to the conference.

Airport and Ground Transportation

Plan to fly into Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Pro tip: If you sit on the right side of the plane, you’ll get a nice view of LMU’s campus from about 500 feet in the air!

We will provide bus service from the hotel to campus Friday morning, to dinner and student activities Friday evening, and back to the hotel Friday night. On Saturday, we will provide bus service from the hotel to LMU in the morning, and from lunch to the hotel Saturday afternoon. We will walk from campus to lunch on Saturday.
