The mission of LMU’s Academic Coaching Program for Learning and Success is to provide enhanced academic support services to students through a multidisciplinary, holistic approach. This program provides individual learning strategy sessions for students who may present with identified learning disorders such as dyslexia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and/or other learning differences. We seek to empower LMU students to become successful and self-directed lifelong learners.
Our learning specialists and academic coaches utilize a strengths-based approach in working with students. Some focus areas include:
- Establish and maintain daily schedules and routines.
- Develop strategies for breaking down projects into manageable and achievable tasks.
- Establish priorities and create S.M.A.R.T. goals.
- Teach strategies for organizational management.
- Support students through the decision-making process.
- Increase awareness of procrastination, and identify ways to get back on track.
- Assist with exam preparation and test-taking strategies.
These offerings can be accomplished by way of the following support services:
- One-on-one meetings.
- Personalized learning strategy sessions.
- Individualized weekly sessions focused on topics such as time management, study strategies, and issues relates to attention, focus, and motivation.
