Why This Event Matters

A recent series of assessments conducted as part of the project highlighted a key finding: many ETPL training providers are not currently equipped to offer accessible or disability-inclusive learning environments.

Key findings included:

  • Limited provider understanding of disability accommodations and legal requirements
  • Gaps in inclusive instructional practices
  • Unfamiliarity with partnering effectively with the Department of Rehabilitation (DOR)

This event is designed to directly address those needs by equipping participants with practical strategies, actionable resources, and expert guidance.

Event Highlights

The training will include interactive sessions and expert-led discussions on:

  • Disability inclusion and legal compliance (e.g., ADA rights, accommodations process)
  • Toolkits and checklists for inclusive teaching and program design
  • Social inclusion and disability etiquette, promoting stigma-free environments
  • Supporting learners throughout their education and employment journey
  • Partnering with DOR, including referral pathways and support services

Who Should Attend?

This training is designed for:

  • ETPL-approved training providers – including vocational schools, CTE programs, adult education, and community-based organizations
  • Project Operators and AJCC staff involved in service delivery or program coordination
  • Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) project partners – and those supporting cross-agency collaboration

A Model for Broader Impact

While this event focuses on the Southern California region, it is intended as a replicable model for future events across the state. In partnership with regional ETPL coordinators and local project operators, LMU aims to support the scaling of similar capacity-building efforts statewide to improve disability inclusion in workforce training.

This initiative is part of LMU’s broader commitment to system alignment and driving systems change within California’s public workforce system. By addressing the needs identified by AJCC and workforce board respondents and piloting a scalable training model, the project aims to enhance the capacity of training providers to better serve learners with disabilities and support sustainable improvements across the workforce training system.
