LMU Extension can develop customized Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) programs for your company's training needs.   • John A. Stewart, founder and Executive Director of AATA is an ASNT Level III RT, UT, and PT, NAS 410 Level III RT, UT, PT, VT and MT NDT engineer.  He founded AATA to help low-income adults from underrepresented communities and unemployed Veterans secure meaningful career pathways in aerospace manufacturing.  John has trained technicians for companies including SpaceX, Goodrich Aerospace and Northrop Grumman over his 23-year career in NDT.   He believes in the transformative power of educating communities to fill the critical labor shortages of the NDT industry.  John is a United States Navy Veteran and served as a Navy Seabee attached to Amphibious Construction Battalion 2.     Justin Hilterman has been in the Non Destructive Testing industry for over 17 years.  He started his journey in the aerospace industry receiving Level II Certifications in UT, MT, PT, and Phased Array Ultrasonics.  He Joined Team Industrial Services in 2010 as an Advanced Services Technician in the Los Angeles Office.  He held many positions in the TEAM organization since then including Advanced Services Manager,  Operations Manager, Quality Manager, and West Division Training Manager overseeing all aspects of Classroom Training and Certification.  He holds  ASNT Level III’s in UT, MT, PT, and has had involvement with AATA since 2018, contributing to the education of our students whether through curriculum development, or classroom instruction.  He has been the Phased Array instructor, and a sitting board member for the Greater Los Angeles ASNT Section.  Justin has experience in Aerospace, Petrochemical, Pipeline, Power, and Structural inspection techniques.

  • What is Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)?

    Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is a testing and analysis technique used by industry to evaluate the properties of a material, component, structure or system for characteristic differences or welding defects and discontinuities without causing damage to the original part. NDT also known as non-destructive examination (NDE), non-destructive inspection (NDI) and non-destructive evaluation (NDE).

    The American Aerospace Technical Academy (AATA) is a Los Angeles-based 501c3 nonprofit that provides NDT training to underserved groups including  Veterans, women and low income adults.  AATA has partnered with LMU Extension to provide advanced NDT courses to individuals and companies interested in refresher courses, skill upgrades, and layoff aversion programs and services.
