Peer Specialist Training Programs

Peer Support Specialists provide recovery-focused services that promote engagement, socialization, and self-sufficiency. This program is designed for individuals 18 and older who have lived experience with recovery from mental illness, substance use disorder, or both, either as a consumer or as a family member.

LMU’s Peer Support training combines the University’s strong academic foundation with its expertise in mental and behavioral health to prepare participants for meaningful careers in the behavioral health field. This program is designed for individuals 18 and older who have lived experience with recovery from mental illness, substance use disorder, or both—either as a consumer or as a family member. Classes are cohort-based, fostering a supportive learning environment that emphasizes peer connection, shared experience, and mutual growth. 

LMU Extension is a CalMHSA approved provider of the California Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist training, and the course meets the educational requirements necessary for applicants seeking to take the state certification exam to become a California Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist.
