Alex S.
Math 101, 102, 120

I am Alex, born and raised in Rio de Janeiro. My biggest hobbies are listening to music and playing piano, I also enjoy being outdoors with the people I love. I’ve always found Physics to be fascinating, more specifically the link between Mathematics and Physical Phenomenon. In Rio, I worked for several years as a math tutor for the Pavão-Pavãozinho Favela trying to pass the ENEM exam (brazilian equivalent of the SAT). I understand not everybody has an easy time doing math and my objective as a tutor is to help people enjoy the process of finding solutions to elegant problems.

Matthew D.
Math 101, 102, 120

My name is Matthew, and I am a junior computer science major. I love playing Pokemon games, hanging out with friends, and making gifts for other people. Throughout my time at LMU, I've a taken a math class each semester, and as much as I enjoyed taking these classes, I wouldn't have been able to succeed without the help from my teachers and other math TAs. Their patience and understanding allowed me to thrive, and I hope to be able to give back what I've received to those who come next.

Math 112, 122, 131 and 123, 132, 234

I have always excelled in math courses, but I often found them boring and repetitive. That changed when I started taking Calculus. The concepts and the way it allowed me to manipulate abstract concepts like limits proved exciting, and very useful to my physics major. Aside from school, I love running and the great outdoors. I am an active member of campus ministry and enjoy volunteering in my spare time. I deeply love learning, and what I enjoy most about being a tutor is getting to see the gears turning in students' heads. In every student, I hope to kindle their critical thinking skills and passion for the subject so that they succeed long after my time with them.

I’m Sofia. I love coffee, books and traveling. You probably have seen me running around campus already (just play “spot the pink hair” game). I’m passionate about starting a dialogue in all and any of its forms, which is why I love tutoring— it’s a great way to connect with new people! More than that, I get to share the knowledge of the subject I love and who knows, maybe get others to fall in love with it too. :)
