Step 1: Review Study Abroad Program Information

Carefully review the details of the study abroad program to ensure it is a good fit for your academic and personal goals. It is your responsibility to make sure academic courses will transfer and meet any necessary requirements.
If you have questions, contact the Study Abroad Office.
Step 2: Submit the LMU Study Abroad Program Application
LMU Study Abroad Program Applications are reviewed, and admissions decisions are made on a first-come, first-served basis. Your application will not be considered complete until all application materials have been submitted and the mandatory non-refundable deposit payment is received.
You are only able to submit one study abroad program application in a term.
Prior to beginning the LMU Study Abroad Program Application, be sure to have the appropriate documents ready. These include:
Application Personal Statement: Write a 200 to 300-word statement describing your interest in the study abroad program you are applying to and how it aligns with your academic, personal, and professional goals. In your response, share what draws you to this specific program and location, how you anticipate it contributing to your growth, and how you plan to engage with and contribute to the local community with humility and curiosity.
Note: Essays identified as being generated by AI tools such as ChatGPT will be immediately disqualified. All submissions will be reviewed for authenticity and originality.
Transcript: Required for first-semester transfer students who do not currently have an LMU GPA. An unofficial or official transcript with a visible cumulative GPA from the transfer institution will need to be submitted.
Passport: All program participants are required to have a passport that is valid for at least six months after your program end date. If you do not have a passport that meets these specifications and want to study abroad, you must apply for one IMMEDIATELY. Expedited passport processing is required for all Spring program applicants as this will impact your ability to obtain a visa (if applicable).
Note: You can continue with an application without a passport but will need to provide this information at a later date.
Step 3: Submit Additional Requirements
Depending on the program type, additional steps may be required.
Semester Programs:

Study abroad provider nominations will not be completed until the student has been accepted by LMU Study Abroad and completed all necessary steps.
- Some aspects of the LMU and study abroad provider applications may appear duplicative, but both must be completed. You must be accepted by both the LMU Study Abroad Office and the study abroad program provider to be fully admitted to the program.
- While the study abroad provider may list a different application deadline on their website, LMU students are required to submit all application materials for both LMU and the study abroad provider by no later than the LMU application deadline.

Summer Programs:
- For LMU faculty-led summer programs, students only need to submit the LMU Study Abroad Application, a provider application is not required.
- Some faculty-led summer programs may require an interview with the faculty member leading the program.
Step 4: Pay the Non-Refundable Study Abroad Program Deposit

The program deposit is only refundable under the following circumstances:
