It is never too early to begin planning your study abroad experience. Review the five phases of Study Abroad below, and prepare yourself for a study abroad program that fits your academic needs and personal interests.

To be done 1 year to 6 months before students study abroad 

Set Personal & Academic Goals

Attend an info session

Attend our Study Abroad Fair in the fall semester

Meet with your Academic Advisor

Meet with a Study Abroad Program Advisor

Check what is in a semester or summer application

Research Scholarship & Grants

Obtain or Renew your Passport, if applicable


 Apply

For semester programs, students submit an applciation the semester before they intend to attend the program. For summer programs, ther application cycle is from November to January. 

Choose one program (you can submit only one application per term)

Start an Application - click the name of the program, and then, the "Apply Now" button.

Submit the Transfer Course Review Form, if applicable

Submit your application by the deadline
Spring deadline: October 2nd
Fall deadline: March 2nd
Summer deadline: November (some programs) or the end of January (most programs)

Determine Visa Requirements

Be aware of the Study Abroad Summer Withdrawal Policy

Students have about a week to commit to a program after they recieve the acceptance email


Prepare

After students commit to a program, they start preparing to study abroad.

Course Registration - once accepted, follow the program instructions

Apply for Housing Abroad- once accepted, follow the program instructions

Attend Pre-Departure Orientations

Obtain your student visa, if applicable

Research Host Country/Culture

Book Flights

Cancel Your LMU Housing for the semester you will be abroad, if applicable

Contact Off-Campus Housing at OCSL@lmu.edu to access the Off-Campus RoomSync portal to sublease your room, if applicable

Health & Safety While Abroad

Register for classes at LMU for the term after your study abroad experience

Understand the on-campus housing applications and deadlines for the semester you are coming back to LMU, if applicable

Contact Off-Campus Housing at OCSL@lmu.edu to access the Off-Campus RoomSync portal to find housing before you return to campus, if applicable
