Whether you live on or off campus, LMU Study Abroad offers students resources and planning tools to make almost any semester study abroad program highly affordable for each student’s unique financial and academic circumstances.
Many LMU Study Abroad programs are similar to the cost of living on campus for a semester and financial aid can be applied to nearly all semester programs.
Use the information here as a starting place to understand how much it costs to study abroad at LMU as you begin planning for your semester abroad.
Understanding Your Study Abroad Expenses
Like a semester on campus, students pay LMU tuition for most study abroad programs. Students are also charged a program fee which includes things like housing, on-site support, 24/7 emergency assistance, and some meals and cultural activities.
Other expenses – such as books, food, or personal travel – are typically paid out-of-pocket and depend heavily on the host-country and student’s spending preferences.

Comparing Study Abroad to a Semester On-Campus
Studying abroad through LMU is an affordable opportunity. For most LMU students, the cost of study abroad is similar to the cost of living on campus for a semester.
Financial aid can be applied to the majority of LMU Study Abroad programs and additional scholarships are available.
Financial Aid and Scholarships for Study Abroad
For most programs, students retain their institutional aid. Students are encouraged to reach out to a financial aid counselor to learn more about how loans, grants, and scholarships work for study abroad.
The Financial Aid Office is located in VDA Building – Suite #270. Students may contact the Financial Aid office using their email messaging system or by phone at 310-338-2753.
When speaking to an LMU Financial Aid counselor about study abroad plans, be sure to provide:
- Student Name and LMU ID#
- Term of interest (Ex. fall 2022 semester)
- Sample question: “I’m planning to study abroad and would like to discuss my financial aid package”
- Study abroad program(s) of interest (see full list of programs)
