BCLA Advanced Summer Research Internship Program (ASRIP) in the Office of Research & Creative Arts

BCLA Advanced Summer Research Internship Program (ASRIP)

The overall goal of the BCLA ASRIP is to increase opportunities for BCLA continuing undergraduate students to participate in faculty-mentor advanced experience in research and creative arts. Run through the Office of Research & Creative Arts, ASRIP is an eight-week summer program held during Summer Session I (plus two weeks remotely) designed to support BLCA students and their faculty mentors advance research and creative work during the summer. ASRIP provides administrative and financial support, academic programming, and on-campus housing opportunities for students. Preference is given to students that have prior research and/or creative experience, such as participation in the Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) and have potential for significant productivity during the eight-week period of the program.

ASRIP 2026

The BCLA Advanced Summer Research Internship Program (ASRIP) is an 8-week program running from May 18, 2026 - June 26, 2026 in person and June 27, 2026 - July 10, 2026 remotely. Click here for more information on ASRIP 2026 and to find the application.

Award

Students will hold the title of BCLA Fellow for Liberal Arts and Enrichment and will be awarded up to a $3,000 research award with the expectation of dedicating 35 hours/week towards their research or creative work under the guidance and mentorship of a BCLA faculty member. If Housing is elected and available, the summer research award is $2,500 with an additional stipend towards on-campus housing.

BCLA full-time faculty (term, clinical, tenure-track, or tenured) will receive student research or creative support and $1,200 in research expenses per student mentored. These funds will be distributed to a faculty gift account to utilize at the faculty member’s discretion (e.g. research supplies, equipment, conference travel but not personal costs) so that they can continue engaging in their scholarship, research and creative work during the summer months.

Housing

ASRIP provides a stipend towards on-campus housing on a limited basis. If available, on-campus stipends toward housing typically cover the cost of a 2 person/room charge, for the duration of Summer Session I (May 18, 2026 - June 26, 2026). On Campus Housing will be available for summer 2026 on a limited basis and is not guaranteed.

This stipend towards housing will be credited to your account. The ASRIP stipend towards housing is a set amount determined by the cost of traditional housing during the six weeks of Summer Session I.  Any additional time (such as before or after Summer Session I) or additional costs are the responsibility of the student.

Upon acceptance into the ASRIP program, students who wish to live in on-campus housing must apply for summer housing through the Student Housing Office by their priority deadline. Processing fees will be waived.

ASRIP students are housed together in the SURP living-learning community.
