CURes began working with the Gateway Cities Regional Climate Collaborative (GCRCC) in 2025. The mission of the GCRCC is to engage neighborhoods along the 710 Freeway and West Santa Ana Branch Metro light rail corridors in Los Angeles to increase their health, wealth, sustainability, and climate resiliency. Specifically, CURes is partnering with TreePeople to design a roadmap for the collaborative to help cities create their own Climate Action Plans.
CURes and TreePeople reviewed over 20 documents relating to Southeast LA and the Gateway Cities in a collaborative coding process to extract priorities, assets, and needs for climate resilience in the Gateway Cities. Documents included, but were not limited to, tree canopy assessments, case studies, policy recommendations, and city agendas. We then synthesized the extractions to create major themes and guiding principles for developing the road map. In the next phase, we will seek feedback from the GCRCC to use in creating the roadmap.
