Emotional Support While Abroad
At home and abroad, college students are at risk for mental health issues, but sometimes the added stressors of studying abroad can exacerbate any pre-existing or unknown mental health concerns. iSOS offers timely and easy access to emotional support while abroad. We recommend reviewing their one-page document (Intl. SOS Emotional Support) to learn more about their emotional support components for students, faculty, and staff studying and working abroad.
Additional Coverage Considerations
In addition to the mandatory LMU provided iSOS coverage, LMU students participating in LMU-approved study abroad programs that are offered by other institutions or overseas providers may be required to purchase the mandatory insurance from that institution or provider as well. As a result, students may have coverage simultaneously from both LMU and the program provider. LMU is not in a position to vet insurance plans offered by different institutions and providers.
LMU strongly recommends that LMU students retain their domestic health insurance during their time abroad to ensure health insurance coverage prior to the program start date, after the program is completed, and for possible reimbursement coverage for routine health care and prescription medication while abroad. These services are not covered by iSOS.
